Eph. 4:1-6

Pastor Trevor begins by playing the introduction of John Lennon's classic song, "Imagine." Many will recall that this song was a fairly direct attack on nationalism and organized religion, and yet the ideas that it imagines - love, brotherhood, peace, equality - are all pursuits of the Christian faith. The problem is not in the ideal, but in the belief that humanity can achieve these things by its own virtue. In today's passage, the apostle Paul states that only within a Spirit-empowered church can such ideals be realized before Jesus returns to deal finally with the problem of Sin. What John Lennon can only imagine, the church can realize - but only where the Spirit is acknowledged and submitted to. Pastor Trevor suggests that the potential of attaining unity in the Spirit hinges directly upon the faithfulness of God's people to pray, long and often, for the Spirit to give it to us.
