Rom. 8:5-9; Jn. 14:17; Gal. 5:16-17

Today’s message begins with a cheeky story about a smuggler that continuously evades Customs by being too obvious (but you will have to listen to find out how!) In the same way, when we ask for noble things, God is often answering those prayers, but in an unexpected way that makes it hard to see; though it is obvious, our assumptions may blind us. The Scriptures we look at today all have a similar theme: that the ways and workings of the Holy Spirit are “upside down” and paradoxical to our natural minds. Because of the tension between Spirit and flesh, what seems to be God stealing from our lives is actually His blessing. Pastor Trevor concludes with a lyric video of Laura Story’s Blessings, which well-summarizes the theme of the day. (It is not included on this recording, but it is worth finding on YouTube!)
