Why St. Patrick Deserves His Day

All around the world, St. Patrick is honoured on March 17th... but most Christians don't know WHY. Ireland does not seem that theologically, imperially, or industrially significant, so why would their patron saint get his own day, amidst so many other heroes of the faith? Listen to this sermon, and you will know why. But the short answer is this: had Patrick not answered his "Macedonian Call" to return to the land of his childhood enslavement, the Celtic tribes of Ireland may not have received Christ. And had not the Celtic world become a missionary movement, the medieval church may never have recovered when the Roman Empire collapsed. The Irish saved the world using a strategy far less imperial - and far more relational - than their Roman predecessors. Their strategy may be very helpful to us, now living in a time and place where those who follow "New Age" (which is really just old Paganism) outnumber those of us who attend church. Will we answer OUR "Macedonian Call?"
