There are several things that could impress us when we read the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey. Some are most impressed by the fact that Jesus could remotely locate a donkey. Matthew, as he records this story, seems to be most impressed by the thought that this day was the fulfillment of a 500-year-old prophecy from Zechariah. But given the recent events in our world, which can easily be seen as another step toward the end times, Pastor Trevor found himself most impressed by the fact that the residents of Jerusalem could be so EXCITED about the possibility that the Messiah had finally arrived to start a war with Rome. Are WE excited about the possibility that Jesus could be returning soon, if that Return lies on the other side of terrifying times? Or are we fearful, angry, or apathetic? May the Spirit draw us all to a mindset in which we are so eager to see Jesus come into His Kingdom that we can overcome our fears and our feelings.
